Goldens have a longer feathered coat and a feathered tail. A Labrador's coat is short throughout and the tail has no fringe.
Confirming a labrador retriever
- An otter tail: thick, round, tapering, densely coated, carried level and never curled.
- A short dense double coat that is water-resistant and sheds constantly.
- Webbed feet.
- A broad head with a moderate stop and a wide muzzle.
Confirming a golden retriever
- A feathered tail carried level with a distinct fringe underneath.
- Heavy feathering on the chest, back of the legs and underside.
- A medium-long outer coat, straight or wavy, over a dense undercoat.
- Broad skull with a straight muzzle and a well-defined stop.
